The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO) is a symphony orchestra comprised of young musicians in grades eight through twelve from schools throughout the greater Rochester area.


The RPYO is sponsored by the Education Department of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra whose musicians serve as mentors and coaches to the RPYO and join them in the annual Side-by-Side concert in Eastman Theatre.


The RPYO has a demanding schedule from September through May, including:


  • Weekly Sunday afternoon rehearsals
  • Three formal concerts in major Rochester concert halls
  • September Retreat weekend
  • Community outreach events
  • Periodic Spring Tours
  • Fundraising activities

Dr. David Harman, retiring RPYO Music Director, will be honored for his years of dedicated service by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at its final concert of the season, Saturday, May 31, at Kodak Hall.
